A Project Born for the love of Agriculture and Sustainable Farming
THE JOURNEY
Simondium Primary School is a government school situated at the foot Simonsberg, outside Franschhoek, Western Cape - an area within the Drakenstein Municipality. The school has two separate campuses, the main building that serves Grade 3 through to Grade 7, and a school, situated across the road that serves Grade R through to Grade 2.
The school was introduced to Call 2 Care through Drakenstein Municipality in 2019, with the request from the school for a sustainable Vegetable Garden and trees.
The iGardi Project incepted at Simondium Primary School in November 2019 with a large tour group from XO events, that planted a large number of trees on the premises to bring in some shade for the very hot summer months.
In March 2020, and the vegetable garden component of the iGardi project was made possible by contribution and support of the Perishable Produce Export Certification Agency (PPECB)
Currently, the iGardi Project runs an eco-learning program at the school with 13 learners from Grade 6, the care-takers of the garden and the staff from the kitchen.
The first phase of the project is to fully implement 20 iGardi Food boxes and run 20 iGardi Training workshops to ensure that all the resources and know-how is provided to the school.
