The Call 2 Care team are proud to host an after-school program at Charleston Hill Secondary School focused on The iGardi Project which leverages the water-wise gardens we recently built on site in order to teach students about sustainable food gardening as a means to ensure food security and improve nutrition.
The focus during this workshop was working with the students in order to plan out nutritious meals that can connect the gardens on site with the kitchen. The children were challenged to work with the kitchen staff, represent the students of the school in terms of meals and finally collaborate in order to devise the most nutritious meal plan. The next step of the process is to plan the design the gardens, select the right plants, utilise companion planting principles and start growing nutritious produce.
This initiative would not be possible without the partnership with VPUU- Violence Prevention Through Urban Upgrading for assisting building the water-wise vegetable gardens that make our educational after-school program possible. We also thank all our supporters through kind donations and attending our fundraising events including Paint & Sip, The Community Chef and more.
Our next objective for the after-school program is to expand the program to offer all aspects of The Philile Project that will educate students on all aspects of wellness and self-development.
