Meet Joel Mamboka
"My motives are diverse African society and communities, from the street dancer, and fisherman to the hairdresser.
Travels have developed my taste for escape and contemplation, discovery and curiosity, whilst arousing my interest in art and culture."
"I am a fine-art painter with a Congolese background, who portraits our everyday hero in abstract and impressionistic art forms."
Joel always saw himself as an artist, from a very young age, and was inspired to follow in his father's footsteps, as an artist. His father would often take him to paint murals in the Congo, where he was born.
Joel graduated with a degree in fine arts from the Academy of Fine Arts Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2014. He then moved to South Africa to further his studies.
He has a great love for all mediums, however he mostly works in abstract. Joel is also a part time chef, and can be found whipping up a few dishes at Movable Feast in Cape Town.
He was featured in This Is Me, A Right of Passage exhibition at the Zeitz Mocca Museum of Contemporary Art, in Cape Town.
